St James Cavalier is showing an encore of the live broadcast of Hedda Gabler, as part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme.

Director Ivo van Hove (The Crucible, A View from the Bridge, A Streetcar Named Desire) marked his National Theatre debut with a modern production of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s play.

This version by Patrick Marber sees Ruth Wilson in the title role, alongside a cast which includes Rafe Spall, Chukwudi Iwuji, Kate Duchêne, Éva Magyar, Sinead Matthews and Kyle Soller.

The plot revolves around Hedda who has just married but is bored already and longs to be free. Railing against a life of crippling convention, Hedda Gabler cuts through the lives of everyone in her orbit.

This play was staged at Lyttelton Theatre in London on March 9.

■ Hedda Gabler is showing at St James Cavalier theatre today at 7.30pm. There will be another encore on April 13 at 7.30pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org or call 2122 3200.
