Michael Umnov clocked a new national record during last weekend’s seventh Age Group Meeting at the National Pool.

Competing in the 200 metres breaststroke race, the Sirens swimmer completed the distance in two minutes and 25.62 seconds.

Earlier this month, a group of swimmers representing the ASA of Malta participated in the seventh Trofeo Citta di Milano Long Course meet in Italy.

The contingent was spearheaded by ASA president Joe Caruana Curran and national coach Artem Goncharenko.

The team’s performance at the Piscina Daniele Samuele was very encouraging as they returned home with four medals.

Mya Azzopardi placed third in the 50 metres butterfly race when clocking a time of 29.75 seconds.

Azzopardi went one better in the 200 metres medley after finishing in second place in two minutes and 26.31 seconds.

Another silver medal went to Leah Tanti. She was the runner-up in the 50 metres freestyle race when swimming the sprint distance in 28.04 seconds.

Martina Valletta also took silver when clocking 32.09 seconds in the 50 metres backstroke.

During their short stay in Italy, the Maltese team also competed in a short-course meet.
