The Gaulitana festival continues with a concert featuring contemporary Italian composer Federico Gozzelino’s Duende, which is inspired by 11 poems by Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca.
Aptly titled Duende: Gozzelino Meets Garcia Lorca, it will see a performance by pianist Sofia Narmania together with reciter Marion Sayers.
Abkhazian pianist Narmania started giving her first concerts at the age of seven. At 10, she won great public acclaim playing Beethoven’s 2nd Piano Concerto. She was then invited to continue her music education in the Moscow Pre-Conservatory College. Her musical development was shaped by her studies at the Moscow Conservatoire and postgraduate studies. Her extensive repertoire covers all musical periods and styles, performing works by Scarlatti and Bach, Liszt and Rachmaninov, Ginastera and Piazolla. In March 2014, she recorded works by Gozzelino.
Born in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, the UK, Sayers developed her love for theatre at the age of 11 and won a number of contests for public and verse speaking. Last year, Sayers made her debut as director for Gozo Live, and also played in a short film written and directed in Gozo.
■ The concert is being held today at the Gozo Ministry Hall, Victoria, at 7.30pm. For more information or opera bookings, call 7703 8971, send an e-mail to gaulitanafestival@gmail.com or visit www.gaulitanus.com.
