In the Times of Malta of March 16, all Maltese and Gozitan drivers were informed that wardens are going to be lenient in the manner they decide whether or not to issue a contravention.

This, I believe, is the second time we drivers have been informed of this new much-needed approach; the first time it was certainly not visible.

Once again I very much doubt that any leniency will be shown, as has been clearly demonstrated in the past. Either Lesa did not lecture the wardens, or else, they just do as they please.

I myself have never found a lenient warden. The same day the article appeared they were still running rampant at the bottom part of Valletta checking all the parked cars, and also in St Julian’s, where two wardens, were hiding in the recess just outside the Regional Road tunnel.

They were not giving any warnings, but dishing out contraventions as if there was no tomorrow. We were so much better off when policemen patrolled our streets, they indeed showed leniency.
