During this present graced time of Lent a great spiritual classic that is being read, particularly throughout the Orthodox world, is The Ladder of Divine Ascent written by St John Climacus.
As Benedict XVI said, this book “is a complete treatise of the spiritual life... that... takes place through 30 steps”. In step one the author says: “The Christian is one who imitates Christ in thought, word and deed, as far as is possible for human beings, believing rightly and blamelessly in the Holy Trinity” (Step 1:4).
Why not sanctify this special time of preparation for Easter by reading daily from The Ladder of Divine Ascent?
