A man was granted bail early this afternoon after having allegedly injured his wife in an argument yesterday.

The 49-year-old man from Fgura pleaded not guilty to having been involved in a violent incident which resulted in his wife suffering a fractured nose.

The court, presided by Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona, heard how the incident took place in their Fgura home.

The defence pointed out that in 21 years of matrimonial life, the police had never received any report regarding similar incidents of domestic violence by the accused.

Moreover, it was noted that the injury was inflicted only when the husband was seeking to ward off his wife after she became aggressive.

The court granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000. The accused was also ordered to sign the bail book once weekly and to move out of the matrimonial home. The man informed the court that he would take up residence at his sister's home in Ghaxaq.

Furthermore, the court issued a Protection Order to provide for the safety of the victim.

Inspector Hubert Cini prosecuted.

Lawyer Stefano Filletti was defence counsel.
