Dean Holdsworth has sold his stake in Bolton Wanderers to fellow co-owner Ken Anderson a year after the pair took over at the Macron Stadium.

The club said former Bolton striker Holdsworth has agreed for the ownership to transfer from Sports Shield BWFC to Anderson’s Inner Circle Investments.

Holdsworth fronted the Sports Shield consortium’s takeover of the club, then playing in the Championship, last March along with Anderson.

City owners consider global expansion

Manchester City’s owners are assessing potential locations as they consider expanding their global network of clubs.

The City Football Group, which also owns New York City FC and Melbourne City as well having a share in Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos, could add to its portfolio.

Tom Glick, CFG chief commercial officer, said: “The important thing for us is to add the right clubs in the right cities, in the right leagues. We are open to this.”

Glick was speaking at an event to announce Korean tyre manufacturer Nexen Tire as City’s new shirt sleeve sponsor.

Victory is a ‘massive tonic’ for sick dad

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson ended a difficult couple of days on a high as his Championship strugglers beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 late Friday.

Johnson’s father Gary, manager of Cheltenham and one of his predecessors in the Ashton Gate hot-seat, is recovering in a Bristol hospital from a heart operation, which was carried out by the surgeon father of City defender Joe Bryan.

Johnson said: “This result will be a massive tonic for dad and I want to thank the football world for all the goodwill expressed towards him and our family.

“The heart surgery was performed by Joe Bryan’s dad, which we didn’t want to talk about before the game. I am grateful to him and all the hospital staff.”

Man. United fined after cup trouble

Manchester United have been fined £20,000 for failing to control their players in last Monday’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Chel-sea, the governing body said.

Referee Michael Oliver was surrounded by several United players after midfielder Ander Herrera was sent off for a second yellow card 10 minutes before half-time after two ill-judged tackles on Chelsea forward Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge.

United admitted the charge and received the standard fine.

United manager Jose Mourinho, back at the club where he won seven major trophies, and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte had to be separated after an exchange shortly after the sending off.

Chelsea won 1-0 with a N’Golo Kante second-half goal.

Inter and Sevilla show Son interest

A report in the Evening Standard said Inter and Sevilla are in a race to sign Heung-min Son from Tottenham Hotspur in summer.

According to the report, both clubs have called the London outfit to check on the South Korea forward’s availability.

Despite barely starting a game, Son, 24, has still contributed 14 goals in all competitions this season. In 2015, Tottenham paid £22m to sign Son from Bayer Leverkusen.

Inter have added interest to land Son’s signature, also to help grow the brand in Asia under Chinese owners Suning Group.

Yaya Toure open to switch to rivals

Yaya Toure has restated his desire to stay at Manchester City, but his agent has revealed negotiations with other clubs have begun.

And representative Dimitri Seluk has even claimed Toure would be open to an offer from rivals Manchester United.

Seluk said: “Why not? Jose Mourinho is a very good coach. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was together with Yaya in Barcelona.

“I understand this is two clubs who are rivals, but for me, for example, this is not a problem from Yaya or from me. This problem will be from Manchester City staff.

“From yesterday we officially started negotiating with different clubs about his future. We waited until March 15 for what Manchester City will say, but until now they don’t say anything.”

Injured Johnson out of qualifiers

A hamstring injury has forced versatile midfielder Fabian Johnson out of the United States team for this week’s World Cup qualifiers, US Soccer announced.

Johnson incurred the injury on Thursday playing for Borussia Moenchengladbach in a Europa League game.

Johnson, who has made 54 appearances on the US team, has been replaced in the 24-man US squad by Sporting Kansas City player Graham Zusi.

Next Friday’s home game against Honduras in San Jose, California, looms as a must-win game for the US in the CONCACAF qualifying group commonly known as the Hexagonal.

The United States have lost their first two games and sit bottom of the group. The US play Panama away four days after the match against Honduras.
