Theatre production company FM Theatre will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2018 by staging two major musical productions which will be  directed by top local theatrical directors.

My Fair Lady will play at the Mediterranean Conference Centre from February 2-4, directed by Denise Mulholland, while the Maltese premiere of Mamma Mia will be directed by Chris Gatt from April 13-15, 2018.

My Fair Lady tells the famous story of Eliza Doolittle, immortalised on film by Audrey Hepburn, who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins. The original Broadway run of the musical starred Julie Andrews in the role of Eliza and set a record for the longest run of any show on Broadway up to that time. It features memorable musical tunes including Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night and On the Street Where You Live.

Mamma Mia is a smash-hit musical based on the songs of Abba. It includes many of the pop super group’s most famous hits, such as Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, Money, Money, Money and, of course, the title song, Mamma Mia.

It has been seen by over 60 million people worldwide and has played in more than 40 countries in six continents. FM Theatre is a leading local theatre company with a reputation for producing high-quality theatre shows. Founded in 1998 by well-known theatre veterans Edward and Marika Mercieca, it has produced sold-out shows such as Chicago, Hairspray, High School Musical, and Fiddler of the Roof, as well as number of pantomimes and plays.

Meanwhile, 2018 will doubtlessly be a milestone year for culture in Malta.

With the spotlight on Valletta as the European Capital of Culture, FM Productions brings a touch of international professionalism and musical magic to our shores with these two large-scale productions.

“We are thrilled to announce that we will be producing both of these shows in a year that will mark a cultural milestone for both us at FM Theatre and Malta as a whole,” says Edward. “These shows will be the perfect representation of the incredible talent that our island has to offer, as well as the excellent standards that our audiences have come to expect in recent years.”

Auditions for My Fair Lady, including all main, secondary and ensemble roles, will be held on April 19.
