Sliema 1; Birkirkara 1

Sliema Wanderers and Birkirkara took a point each following a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium.

The match turned out to be a lively affair in the first half with both teams managing to find their opponents’ net.

Birkirkara took the lead on 11 minutes when they were awarded a central free-kick and Miguel Alba’s inswinger flew past a helpless Giuseppe Sarao in the Sliema goal.

The Wanderers fought back and managed to draw level eight minutes later when Denni intercepted a poor back pass from Cain Attard to fire the ball past a surprised Henry Bonello.

In the second half the match lost much of the intensity with scoring chances few and far between and it was no surprise that both teams had to settle for a point.

The result sees Birkirkara slip to fifth spot on 44 points, two adrift of Floriana while Sliema are sixth on 35 points.

Sliema striker Denni was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
