Gaulitana’s artist-in-residence Alexander Frey will today show his skills on the organ in a concert entitled Strains in a Basilica. He will be accompanied by Pierre Louis Attard on viola and Stefan Calleja on violin, after an open call for collaborative artists.

Attard is an Ian Tomlin scholar. He graduated with first-class honours from Edinburgh Napier University. Majoring in violin under the tuition of Christopher George, Tristan Gurney and Lise Aferiat, he was awarded the Hebberts Prize for strings. Calleja started violin lessons at the age of 7 under the guidance of Fiona Giambra, later obtaining the Licentiate of the Royal School of Music through the direction of Mario Bisazza. He is currently reading for a degree in violin performance at the University of Malta under the tuition of Natalia Filipenko.

The concert programme includes music from the film King’s Row by Erich W. Korngold and works by composers Wagner, Franck, Telemann, Jongen, Kreisler, Vierne and Fauré.

This concert is being held with the collaboration of the Malta Youth Orchestra.
