The popular musical The Sound of Music will once again be staged at the Mediterranean Conference Centre following a successful run last October.

Tne musical, which played to three sold-out houses, will now be staged on April 15 and 16. 

The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse.

Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children. 

This production is being produced by Grapevine Music together with the Mediterranean Conference Centre and directed by Ray Mangion and musical direction by Mro Paul Abela. The executive producer is David Borg. There is a cast of around 50 singers and actors which include Dorothy Bezzina who will interpret the role of Maria, Roger Tirazona as Captain Von Trapp, Stephania Grech as Mother Abbess, as well as Joseph Pavia, Nikki Farrugia and Ryan Paul Abela.

They will be accompanied by a live orchestra composed of 23 musicians.
