Our brain works by sending signals through neurones. Neurones can receive signals from thousands of other neurons. Take pyramidal neurones (green) that receives tens of thousands of messages from other neurons from all over the brain. These neurons talk to interneurons (red) that form local connections between pyramidal neurons to form microcircuits within brain areas.
