Balzan returned to the top of the Premier League standings when they eased past Floriana 2-0 at the National Stadium.

The Reds were all over their opponents right from the outset and managed to wrap up the points by the end of the first half.

Balzan took the lead after 11 minutes. Enrico Pepe fouled Matteo Piciollo deep into the left flank. Ryan Fenech’s delivery was met by Elkin Serrano Valero who beat Matthew Grech with firm header.

Floriana look rattled and their reaction was futile.

Instead it was Balzan who doubled their lead on 33 minutes.

In a swift raid, Alan Da Silva Souza released Anderson who hit a low drive that gave no chance to Grech.

On the restart, Balzan opted to administer their advantage as Floriana looked short of ideas and never looked capable of forcing their way into the match.

The win put Balzan back on top of the standings, one point clear of Hibernians while Floriana remained in fourth place.

Balzan’s Alan Da Silva Souza was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
