Rangers have appointed Pedro Caixinha as manager on a three-year contract, replacing Mark Warburton who left the club last month, the Scottish Premier League side said yesterday.

The 46-year-old Portuguese, who joined Rangers from Qatar’s Al-Gharafa, will take charge of the team on Monday, with caretaker boss Graeme Murty in charge for today’s derby with Celtic.

Rangers are third in the standings, trailing leaders Celtic by 33 points.

“It is a great honour to join Rangers Football Club,” Caixinha said.

“This club has a great history and tradition and I am proud to follow in the footsteps of legendary Rangers managers like Walter Smith, Graeme Souness and Jock Wallace.”
