Parliamentary Secretary for Research and Innovation Chris Agius recently visited the University of Malta to be briefed on some of the projects that its Knowledge Transfer Office is seeking to commercialise, and to meet the researchers involved. The projects include an ultra-wideband antenna system to be used in the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project, breast cancer detection kits, energy storage technology that converts unpredictable and variable output from an offshore wind turbine into a smooth and predictable supply, a multivision camera to observe events happening at ultra-high speeds, and a combined heat and power system for domestic use. Photo shows (from left) Anton Bartolo, director, Corporate Research & Knowledge Transfer, Prof. Saviour Zammit, pro rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, Mr Agius and Prof. Kristian Zarb Adami demonstrating the ultrawideband antenna design.
