The area in front of City Gate will host buses for the last time on Saturday night as works start to pedestrianise the entire area.

Passengers arriving in Valletta will start exiting the bus at the area known as il-Biskuttin, in front of the Phoenicia Hotel, Transport Malta said in a statement.

It said the Valletta entrance project will enter a new phase in the coming days. Works on King Edward Avenue were nearing completion and these were to continue in the area around the Tritons Fountain, where tree pits are to be formed and services and irrigation reservoirs installed. The square will then be pedestrianised.

TM said the area around the fountain will be cordoned off for safety during the works. The Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation was creating a pedestrian passage that would guide pedestrians safely to Valletta and Floriana during the works.
