Bank of Valletta confirmed today that some of its ATMs were hit by a spate of fraud attacks over the weekend.

It said that following work with the police, individuals have been taken to court.

"BOV would like to assure its esteemed customers that it will continue to monitor and take all the necessary preventive security measures in order to protect and safeguard the interests of its clients," the bank said.

"The Bank would like to confirm that all its ATMs are operating normally and that the service throughout its branch network and ATMs was not affected."

It said that as always, in such cases, the customers' accounts will not be affected in any way.

Two Romanians were taken to court yesterday, accused of card skimming. The case reportedly also affected ATMs of HSBC. Some €16,000 were withdrawn after some 1,000 cards were copied.
