Leverkusen: Bayer Leverkusen named Tayfun Korkut as their head coach until the end of the season yesterday. The former Hanover 96 boss succeeded Roger Schmidt, who was sacked after Saturday’s 6-2 demolition by Borussia Dortmund. The 42-year-old former Turkey international, who coached Hanover from early 2014 to 2015, was more recently coach of second-tier Kaiserslautern until December.
TV rights: BT has beaten arch-rival Sky to retain the rights to broadcast Champions League soccer matches until 2021, agreeing to pay £1.2 billion – nearly a third more than last time. BT, Britain’s biggest broadband and mobile operator, said it had won the exclusive rights to show both live matches and highlights in Britain from 2018/19.
Carrillo: Monaco will be without forward Guido Carrillo for a further five to six weeks due to an operation on his groin injury. The Argentinian has missed the team’s last two matches and has been limited since the winter break by an adductor muscle problem.
Coventry: Mark Robins has returned to Coventry for a second spell as manager. The 47-year-old was in charge of the Sky Blues for 17 months between 2012 and 2013 before leaving to take the post at Huddersfield. Coventry City fired Russell Slade on Sunday, are bottom of the table and 13 points from safety with only 11 games to go.
Bento: Paulo Bento has been sacked as coach by Greece’s Olympiakos after a string of poor results, the Super League club announced. The 47-year-old Portuguese coach had come under pressure since Sunday’s 2-0 loss to PAOK Salonika. That gave it three straight league defeats for the first time in 21 years.
