Hibernians 2; Sliema 1

Hibernians put their title credentials back on track when they beat Sliema Wanderers 2-1 at the National Stadium.

The Paolites were determined to get back to winning ways after last week they dropped precious points in 3-3 draw against Ħamrun Spartans.

Mark Miller’s men all but asserted their win in the first half when they surged into a two-goal lead.

Jurgen Degabriele gave the Paolites a headstart when he put them ahead after only seven minutes.

The Wanderers tried to hit back but it was Hibs who struck again 11 minutes from the break through Bjorn Kristensen.

Sliema managed to reopen the match on 62 minutes when they were awarded a penalty and skipper Alex Muscat drilled the ball into the net.

But the Blues’ efforts to grab an equaliser proved futile as the Paolites went on top of the standings on 50 points, two clear of Balzan who face Pembroke this afternoon.
