A researcher of Maltese descent in a Scottish university recently interviewed Scottish and Maltese schoolchildren. Among other things, she asked them whether they like the French and why.

Both said no. Scots said this was because the French eat frogs.

The Maltese children said because the French ran off with de Valette’s sword.

Well, it might be difficult to persuade all the French or all the Scots about frogs. But all they need to do about the sword is not to run off with it again once it is back home.
