The fourth ranking tournament of the Malta Eight Ball Federation season was played recently with over 100 players vying for one of the three honours at stake.

Nicky Spiteri (San Ġwann) sealed the Open title after having the better of Darren Schem-bri (Birkirkara BC) 10-6 in an intriguing final.

In the Under 23 competition, Paola Wolves cueist Clint Zammit beat Lee Ryan Darmanin, of Cherries Birżebbuġa, 10-8 in the decisive match.

The Over 40 final saw Mario Brincat and Conrad Catania engaged in a 15-frame thriller. The verdict finally went in favour of Paola Wolves’ Brincat who edged his San Ġwann BC opponent 9-6.

In all, there are eight ranking tournaments scheduled this season.

The final list will determine the national team rosters for the Open and Under 23 tournaments at the 2017 Blackball European Championships in Bridlington, UK, in April.
