152 persons were found illegally dumping waste in the last four months of last year when the Infrastructure Ministry stepped up inspections following a rise in dumping in various localities, minister Joe Mizzi told parliament this evening.

He said the initiative was considered a success and has been extended to this year.

He told Labour MP Godfrey Farrugia that officials of the Cleansing Service Directorate are accompanied on patrols by policemen.

The minister also said that the Cleansing Service Directorate last year collected 15,700 tons of waste dumped on various sites around the country.

That was 5% more than the previous year.
