The 11th edition of the Gaulitana festival kicks off today in Victoria.

A selection of participants of vocal masterclasses held by internationally renowned Maltese soprano Miriam Gauci will take part in a concert that brings the classes to a close.

Gauci herself will feature in the lead role in the operatic production of Madama Butterfly, the highlight of this year’s festival being held on April 1 at the Aurora Theatre in Victoria. She will be flanked by Vincenzo Costanzo, recently ranked among the world’s top 10 tenors by Operalife, in the role of Pinkerton with Italian baritone Alberto Mastromarino in the role of Sharpless.

■ The concluding concert of Miriam Gauci’s vocal masterclasses is being held today at the Gozo Ministry Hall in Victoria, at 7.30pm. Entrance is free.
