The first edition of the Italian Design Day is taking place on Thursday in 100 locations worldwide.

Ideated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this occasion will be marked through events organised by the network of embassies, consulates and Italian cultural institutes around the world.

A scientific committee, made up of the Triennale di Milano, universities, research centres, public and private Italian academies – among which the polytechnics of Milan and Turin and the Nuova Accademia delle Belle Arti, the Istituto Europeo del Design and l’Istituto Marangoni – has identified 100 ambassadors of Italian culture who will be travelling around and participating in special events.

They range from designers to entrepreneurs, journalists, critics, communicators and teachers, all involved in the field of design. Malta will host Marinella Paderni and Giangi Razeto.

Paderni, director of ISIA in Faenza, the Higher Institute for the Artistic Industry, will deliver a talk entitled ‘Design is the Future: The Art of the Project in Italy’. This is being held today at the University of Malta in Tal-Qroqq, Msida at 9.30am (MaKS, Room 414). Entrance is free but a place needs to be reserved by sending an e-mail to info.maks@um.edu.mt.

Designer Giangi Razeto, manager of the Office for Innovation and Design at Fratelli Razeto & Casareto SpA, a leading company which designs and manufactures marine hardware in Italy, will then host an encounter on Thursday. This is taking place at the Mcast Institute for Creative Arts in Mosta at 10am. Admission to the talk is free.
