A striker hoping to get on the scoresheet ended up with a far more valuable prize when he saved a life instead.

Bohemians 1905 striker Francis Kone prevented Slovacko goalkeeper Martin Berkovec from choking to death after he noticed that the keeper had swallowed his tongue following an aerial collision with one of his defenders.

The incident happened half an hour into the Czech Republic Liga match between the two sides.

Berkovec went limp and lost consciousness after he and defender Daniel Krch collided in mid-air, and Kone's quick reactions ensured the collision did not end in tragedy.

The goalkeeper subsequently thanked the Togolese striker on Facebook. He was taken to hospital and kept there for observation, but is expected to make a full recovery.
