With so many fashion weeks and different catwalk shows throughout the year, one would fear that over the years, the fashion crowd would tire of it and maybe lose their passion.

The beauty of fashion, however, is that there’s always something new to discover and uncover: a new idea, a new concept a new way of wearing something that hasn’t been worn in a while. The excitement in the audience of the different shows and the often frantic crowd outside, trying to get in or get a glimpse of their favourite street-style star shows that if anything the passion is growing not dying.

Moschino

The frenzy outside the Moschino show needs to be seen to be believed. The fact that Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner all walked on the show didn’t help. I was there early, I spent a few hours backstage watching the MAC Cosmetics team apply the makeup.

The Moschino collection will undoubtedly be another sellout. The Moschino collection will undoubtedly be another sellout.

The idea behind the collection is a woman ‘so enraptured with fashion that she wraps herself in every material to bring her closer to it’. The collection opens with a series of ‘cardboard couture’ -items crafted in materials describing items people rip open and discard. Other pieces are seemingly made out of scraps from fashion magazines.

The cleverness of Jeremy Scott is about taking real world issues and almost making a parody of the affair - the invitation resembles a piece of cheese and arrived in a branded mouse trap whilst the gift is a mousetrap phone cover. This will definitely be another sellout.

The models wore wigs with bangs whilst Tom Pecheux - the lead artist described the look as a new icon is born with winged eyeliner and doll lips

Elisabetta Franchi

Elisabetta Franchi is another designer that excites the crowd. The vibe in the audience is always great, almost akin to a big social event like a concert. It is obvious that especially in Italy, the designer is very loved and celebrated. The clothes presented in this collection are superb. They felt more wearable than her previous collection and also somewhat classier and more elevated as a style. Her clever styling and tailoring techniques were present along with her special way of enhancing the female body to bring out every curve, in a good way of course

It was clear the Italian crowd had a lot of love for Elisabetta Franchi and her collection. It was clear the Italian crowd had a lot of love for Elisabetta Franchi and her collection.

The inspiration for the collection is the late forties - Evita Peron to be exact, a strong, powerful but feminine woman. The looks as presented on the catwalk might not be translated as is to every woman’s wardrobe but there will definitely be many individual pieces that will find many good homes.
