Updated 3.35pm - Added PL reaction

An "unprecedented" petition by Broadcasting Authority workers against their chairwoman Tanya Borg Cardona required the Prime Minister to take action, PN broadcasting spokesman Clyde Puli said today.

Dr Puli slammed Ms Borg Cardona, saying the PN no longer had any faith in her ability to lead the BA, having previously reserved judgment "despite reservations" about her lack of experience in broadcasting affairs.

The Times of Malta last week reported that a majority of BA staff had signed a petition addressed to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat in which they said the authority had "taken a turn downwards" since Ms Borg Cardona's appointment.

Dr Puli said he expected Dr Muscat to intervene "and not run to the emergency exit, as he often does."

The PN MP also questioned Ms Borg Cardona's decision to move BA offices to Valletta - with the authority's existing offices going to Chris Cardona's Economy Ministry - asking whether the Prime Minister had signed off on the deal and if any unnamed third parties stood to gain from the move.

Ms Borg Cardona assumed the chair of the BA just over a year ago, taking over the reigns from Anthony J. Tabone. She previously served on the Housing Authority board.

'Busuttil is going to fire everyone' - PL

Having said that he lacks confidence in the police, army, PBS journalists, workers at Enemalta, the Planning Authority, Environment and Resources Authority and local hospitals, PN leader Simon Busuttil was now targeting the Broadcasting Authority, the Labour Party said in a reaction.

"You can hardly blame workers for wondering who will be the next person to be fired if Busuttil gains power," the party said. "Instead he keeps Toni Bezzina, Beppe Fenech Adami, Tonio Fenech, George Pullicino and Jason Azzopardi."
