A group of 33 people, made up of 20 cousins and their respective spouses, hailing from Vittoriosa held a family reunion at the Qawra Palace Hotel on the feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck.

The special bond among the cousins was that they all had a common set of grandparents –Joseph Caruana and M’Assunta, née Mifsud. Those among them whose surname was not Caruana had ‘Caruana’ as their second surname.

The group shared fond memories of coming together in the past during festive family occasions – past engagements, weddings and baptisms. But lately, such occasions had run short and they often lamented how they missed coming across each other as a group. And they decided a reunion would be opportune.

The day started by their meeting in Vittoriosa to take a hired coach to Qawra. The trip was marked by effusive greetings and exchange of news. In Qawra, the banter and laughter continued until they went for dinner. At the end, a toast was proposed to Nannu Ġuż and Nanna Sunt, without whose marriage the cousins would not have been there.

A toast of thanks was also proposed for Maria, one of the cousins, who had taken the initiative to organise the event.

Going back to Vittoriosa by coach, each and every member of the group was expressing how worthwhile and warm the occasion had been.
