Latvian artist Lasma Vitolina, a painter, photographer and graphic designer whose latest project is creating floral mandalas from nature elements found in Maltese flora, is currently exhibiting at Palazzo de Piro, Mdina, until the first week of March.
Since young age, creativity was already a big part in her life and she has participated in various art competitions gaining recognition awards also at national level.
Vitolina is a devout lover of plants, nature and the divine presence within all. ‘Mandala’ forms are characterised by a circular shape, symmetrical design with a central point expanding outwards.
The artist describes mandala as a circle of life through its circular shape, cycle after cycle representing birth, growth and death. Once a mandala is complete, she documents it in a photograph, thus capturing the fleeing beauty of the moment.
She gathers flowers and nature elements from her walks outdoors… the fascinating part of it being the surprising outcome making each mandala design unique and original. It’s a dialogue between the artist and nature, an endless playground to discover.
Vitolina studied arts and design and has two degrees in computer design and web development.
