Tennis: World number two Novak Djokovic (picture) will make his return from a shoulder injury at next week’s ATP tournament in Acapulco, the Serb said on Friday. Djokovic had accepted a wildcard into the Mexican tournament which boasts a strong field including Australian Open finalist Rafa Nadal and world number four Milos Raonic. “Great news! You’ll see me back on court next week in Acapulco at @AbiertoTelcel,” the 12-times grand slam champion wrote on his Twitter account. “Did you miss me?”

American Football, NFL: Bernie Custis, the first black starting quarterback in professional football, died on Thursday aged 88, the Canadian Football League said on Thursday. Custis made history in 1951 when he started a game for the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, paving a path for other African American quarterbacks to follow such as Hall of Famer Warren Moon, who played in Canada before going on to star in the National Football League. “Trailblazers are rightly remembered for being the first,” CFL Commissioner Jeffrey Orridge said in a statement. “Bernie Custis, the first black professional quarterback in the modern era starting with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1951, should be revered as well for being one of our best

Basketball, NBA: Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a come-from-behind win against the LA Clippers in the NBA. The Warriors looked like they were heading for defeat, trailing 61-49 at the halfway point, but they scored a whopping 50 points in the third quarter to inspire a 123-113 win. Curry scored 20 of his 35 points in that 12 minutes as the Warriors won their 48th game of the season.

Athletics: Former world record holder Wilson Kipsang believes he can reclaim the mark at this weekend’s Tokyo Marathon after a move of the finish line by race organisers resulted in a flatter course. The Kenyan set his then world record of two hours, three minutes and 23 seconds at the 2013 Berlin Marathon but his mark was shattered by compatriot Dennis Kipruto Kimetto, who lowered it to 2:02:57 in the same race the following year. “I don’t think it would be a surprise if I rewrote it (the world record),” Kipsang, a bronze medallist in the 2012 London Olympics, said.

Cricket: A third suspect has been arrested in connection with bribery offences linked to international cricket match spot-fixing. Officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) arrested the British man, who is in his 30s, on Thursday morning in Sheffield as part of its ongoing investigation. He has since been bailed pending further inquiries. Two men, including Pakistan cricketer Nasir Jamshed, were arrested by NCA officers on Monday February 13 and were bailed until April.
