Caceres: Martin Caceres could be set for a dream Southampton debut in the EFL Cup final against Manchester United. The 29-year-old defender was signed as a free agent two weeks ago, having been without a club since leaving Italian champions Juventus at the end of last season. Saints manager Claude Puel moved for Caceres after losing Virgil van Dijk to a long-term ankle injury and captain Jose Fonte, who moved to West Ham last month.

Bentaleb: Nabil Bentaleb will become a Schalke player on a permanent basis at the end of his season-long loan from Tottenham. The 22-year-old Algerian midfielder was allowed to move to the Bundesliga last August after dropping out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at White Hart Lane. He has performed strongly in Germany, adding a goalscoring element to his game that was absent at Tottenham by netting four times already.

United: Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick are available for Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Southampton, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be absent for Manchester United.  United captain Rooney missed the midweek Europa League trip to St Etienne as he returned to fitness, but has been confirmed as part of the squad heading to Wembley. Midfielder Carrick has overcome a calf complaint sustained in France.

Hernandez: Hull head coach Marco Silva said he had not been made aware of any bids for striker Abel Hernandez. Hernandez has been linked with a move to Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan, but Silva confirmed the striker is available for Hull’s home Premier League game against Burnley on Saturday. “Until now I’ve heard nothing about the offers for Abel and he’s staying for at least the game (on Saturday),” Silva said.
