The UK's decision to leave the European Union has set in motion a movement that will sweep the world, Nigel Farage has told a US audience.

Mr Farage told American conservatives "what happened in 2016 is the beginning of a great global revolution".

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Mr Farage on Friday compared the UK's June vote to leave the European Union and President Donald Trump's victory in November.

He said both campaigns were about putting their countries first and most doubted they would win.

"We're winning!" he said to huge cheers.

Mr Farage was the leader of the UK Independence Party and has long campaigned to leave the 28-nation bloc.

He said there could be similar results in upcoming elections in the Netherlands, France and Germany.

"What I do know is if the challengers don't get over the line this year, they will shift the centre of gravity of the entire debate," Mr Farage said.
