A self-confessed drug addict, currently serving a jail term for a number of thefts, was today back in court to face fresh charges related to aggravated theft alongside another man who acted as an accomplice.

Allan Grima, 34, from Kalkara, was charged with breaking into a Toyota Hiace parked in Glormu Cassar Hill, Floriana in the early hours of February 12. The accused, allegedly assisted by 25-year- old Libyan national, Mohamed Jamhur, who lives in Valletta, stole some €30 in cash from the vehicle, which was also damaged.

The court, presided by magistrate Doreen Clarke, heard both accused plead guilty to the charge of theft and complicity to theft respectively.

It condemned Mr Grima to a fresh jail term of 16 months and extended the operative period of an earlier suspended sentence to Mr Jamhur to four years.

Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna prosecuted. Lawyer Victor Bugeja was counsel to Mohamed Jamhur. Lawyer Martin Fenech was legal aid to Allan Grima.
