Luxol were in a class of their own as they thrashed Żurrieq Wolves 23-0 in another monotonous one-sided affair from the first phase of the Gatorade Futsal League.

The Wolves’ aspirations did not extend beyond trying to avoid a heavy defeat against opponents who thrive primarily on fast incursions and varied offensive tactics.

Once ahead, it was steamrolling for the league leaders who again had Brazilian talisman Celino Alves in fine form as he contributed with four goals despite being involved in many others.

Nicola Del Re and Andy Mangion also scored four times each and Dejan Bizjak found the net three times.

On the other hand, Zvezdan Vukovic, Frane Despotovic and Carl Azzopardi hit the target twice while Matthew Attard and an own goal rubberstamped Luxol’s  mammoth victory.

Luxol preserved their 100 per cent after their 11th successive win in the championship.

Ħamrun Tre Angeli leapfrogged Valletta into second place in the standings after a 12-2 mauling of Qrendi.

The Red/Blacks, as expected, dominated the match with Qrendi trying hard to score goals through their sporadic counter attacks.

Lethal strikers Cleavon Portelli and Everton Veve were in fine form for Ħamrun as they scored five and four goals, respectively. Luke Stivala was twice on the mark while Jason Mifsud completed the scoreline.

Antonello Brincat and Bertram Azzopardi got Qrendi’s consolation goals.

University of Malta are passing through a bright patch after seeing off Safi San Lorenzo 4-1 in a more balanced encounter.

The ‘students’ made it six wins in a row and now lie fifth in the standings.

They scored two goals before half-time, through Leo Muscat and Andrea Farrugia.

In the second half, University keeper Matthew Gatt was called into action several times as he produced a string of saves to keep Safi at bay.

At the other end, the University lads netted their third goal through Leo Muscat forcing Safi to adopt the flying keeper tactic in their bid to save the match.

They pulled one back, through Franklin Seisun, but Kyle Sultana’s team stayed focused and after winning a shot from the second penalty mark, it was Martin Caruana who sealed the win 4-1.

Valletta could regain the second spot in the table tonight if they emerge unscathed from a difficult match against Swieqi. In the late kick-off, Tarxien JMI play Qormi.
