I refer to the editorial, ‘Dawn of the new Nationalist’ (February 15).

I am intrigued as to how this newspaper could possibly call the present-day PN a “new Nationalist party”.

A truly Nationalist party would, above all else, secure our borders against illegal immigration and insist on deporting all economic migrants back to their country of origin without delay.

As I recall, the PN was most strident in opposing pushbacks and went scurrying to Brussels to cause as much trouble as it could for the government to prevent the pushbacks from taking place. It succeeded, much to the detriment of the indigenous Maltese people.

When Times of Malta compares the nationalism of the PN under George Borg Olivier to that under Simon Busuttil, the use of the word ‘nationalist’ to describe the philosophy of the ‘new’ party is somewhat oxymoronic.
