A multi-millionaire playboy has been spared jail after attacking a customer at his Mayfair club when he made a joke about his "small dick".

Financier Carl Hirschmann, 36, hurled a glass at photographer Barnabas Wilhelm at The Scotch of St James in Mayfair, central London, in April last year.

He was caught on CCTV chucking his drink over Mr Wilhelm's friend, Valentino Ritter, before launching the glass at him.

The victim was left with gash across his forehead that needed six stitches and a fractured nose.

Hirschmann was given a 12-month community order at Southwark Crown Court on Friday for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The wealthy Swiss financier was also ordered to pay £5,000 compensation to the victim.

He grinned as he was released from the dock and was seen celebrating and hugging his fiance in the court after the sentence.

Mr Wilhelm has a permanent scar across his face and suffered from nightmares and anxiety after the attack, he said in a statement read to the court.

Judge Michael Grieve QC described the injuries as "shocking and painful".

What you did that night was an immature or childish and very careless and unnecessary reaction

"What you did that night was an immature or childish and very careless and unnecessary reaction by you when engaged in a somewhat silly dispute which had broken out between you and these two strangers," he added.

Hirschmann claims he was only trying to throw his drink over Mr Wilhelm and that the glass slipped out of his hand, which was accepted by the prosecution.

Zoe Johnson, defending, said he was provoked by Mr Ritter, who allegedly used "bad language".

Hirschmann, of Westminster, central London, has four previous convictions in Switzerland, including one for an "act of aggression".
