A large, retractable and illuminated tent-like structure has been installed over the recreational yard of Mater Boni Consilii St Joseph School, Paola, enabling its students to make better use of the yard both in inclement weather as well as in the summer heat.
The structure is innovative as it can be operated by remote control and includes artificial lighting, making it possible to turn the yard into a multi-purpose space, explained headmaster Kenneth Vella.
During the past five years a number of other projects have been undertaken to improve the school’s facilities, including the installation of interactive whiteboards in all classes, the placing of 55 solar panels on the school roof and the installation of a centralised air conditioning system. These projects were carried out with the financial support of the community of the Sisters of St Joseph as well as by donations from parents of the students.
The ceremony inaugurating the school tent was presided by Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona. Other guests included Roseanne Cuschieri, director for Educational Services at the Secretariat for Church Schools, provincial Sr Cecilia Schembri and the sisters of the community of St Joseph, Paola, members of the board of governors, staff, students and their families.
