Wagner: Huddersfield head coach David Wagner has been targeted by struggling Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, according to reports in Germany. Newspaper Bild claims Wolfsburg’s current head coach Valerien Ismael will take charge of his final game today, against Borussia Monchengladbach, with the Lower Saxony team then heading into a winter break. Frenchman Ismael, 41, was only appointed on a permanent basis in November after replacing Dieter Hecking, who was sacked in October.

Bernardi: The Argentine merry-go-round of coaches continued as the first division went into a seven-week summer recess yesterday with Arsenal’s Lucas Bernardi quitting after five matches in charge. Former Newell’s Old Boys and Monaco midfielder Bernardi, who took over from Sergio Rondina, left after Arsenal’s first win of the season, 2-1 against Velez Sarsfield, the club said.

Chile: South American champions Chile have been handed a stadium ban for the third time in the 2018 World Cup qualifying competition because of homophobic chanting by their fans. Chile will have to play two more games away from the Estadio Nacional, in an addition to an existing ban. They were also fined 30,000 Swiss francs ($29,000).

Barcelona: Barcelona have agreed to withdraw an appeal against fines imposed by UEFA last year after their supporters waved pro-Catalan independence flags at two matches, the governing body said. In return, UEFA will consider loosening rules which prohibit the display of any flags or banners with political connotations, saying such regulations needed to evolve to respect “freedom of expression”.

Gannon: Ipswich are interested in Dundalk defender Sean Gannon, the Daily Mirror reported yesterday. The Championship club are understood to have been alerted to the right-back  following the Irish side’s impressive performances in the Europa League.
