Gżira Athleta won their second category honour this season after beating Siġġiewi St Nicholas 74-50 in the BOV Division Two KO final to add to their MBA Shield success a few weeks ago. An 11-0 run in the opening quarter set Gżira Athleta’s offensive machine in motion. Two treys by the game’s MVP Luca Stefanovic and the athletic prowess of Kwame Thompson helped Athleta open an early double-digit lead. Play was more balanced in the second quarter but Gżira changed ends 39-25 ahead. After a slow start, the Thompson/Stefanovic duo further increased Gżira’s advantage. Both sides improved immensely in the last quarter as defence was also more lax at both ends. The Saints had points from Keith Scicluna and Roberto Alosco while Athleta also took the opportunity to give extended court time to all the bench players. Peter Perotti, BOV chief officer, presented the winning trophy to Athleta captain Joshua Aquilina.
