Charlton Debono (right) and Lisa Marie Bezzina achieved a Maltese double at the annual Mdina to Spinola (M2S) Race yesterday. The strong wind and constant rain made life difficult for the competing runners in this annual race which saw Debono hold off the strong challenge of Italian athlete Vincenzo Scuro (Raptorz Running Club). Debono, of Gozo Athletix AC, completed the 10.8-mile route in 56 minutes and 38 seconds, only seven seconds ahead of Scuro. Mario Grech, of St Patrick’s AC, was third in 57:41. In the women’s category, Bezzina, wearing the colours of Pembroke Athleta, was unchallenged throughout the distance, crossing the line in 01:05:21. Roberta Schembri, of St Patrick’s, was second in 01.09.00 while Catherine Chetcuti, of Pembroke Athleta, took third place in 01:10:20.
