Premier League club Birkirkara have asked the police to investigate what they described as suspicious behaviour by one of their players.

“The Birkirkara FC committee received information about suspicious behaviour of one of its players, and it passed on this information to the competent authorities immediately, for due investigation,” Birkirkara FC said in a statement yesterday.

“The committee would like to appeal for caution and to let the competent authorities carry out their investigations.”

Birkirkara FC reaffirmed their utmost trust and faith in coach Nikola Jaros.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Birkirkara FC have also informed the Malta FA about this case which reportedly revolves around suspicions of illegal betting.

Sources told Times of Malta that the implicated player was summoned for questioning by the police yesterday evening.

Officials from the Malta FA Integrity Office and Birkirkara FC are expected to meet in the coming days to further discuss the matter. As per normal practice, the MFA are expected to start their own investigation into the allegations flagged by Birkirkara FC.
