Sirens 2
Naxxar Lions 2

Sirens produced their best performance of the season to hold leaders Naxxar Lions at the Centenary Stadium.

It was a fair result to an entertaining encounter which saw the St Paul’s Bay side halt the Lions’ impressive run of seven successive victories.

The Lions took the lead on 16 minutes.

Yuri de Yesus Messias slotted the ball home from close in from a Duane Bonnici delivery.

But Sirens levelled on 27 minutes when Ryan Cassar brought down Christian Caruana inside the area and Ciantar drilled home the resultant penalty.

Naxxar regained their lead on 61 minutes.

Bonnici controlled the ball in the penalty box but his effort was blocked, the ball fell to Messias who made no mistake from the rebound.

But parity was soon restored when Ciantar beat Borg with sizzling volley from outside the area.

Both teams pushed more men forward late on in search of a winner but the stalemate prevailed.
