The recently-held Maltese Islands Festival was a huge success with over 180 solo performances and 435 individual performances within groups taking place at St James Cavalier over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both children and adults performed in a vast range of categories across the disciplines of dance, drama, singing and music.

“The first edition of The Maltese Islands Festival was a real success and we are thrilled with the results,” says festival manager Cathy Lawlor. “All the performers did a great job and the inter-national adjudicators – who flew to Malta especially for the festival – were very impressed by the island’s high performance standards.”

Specific performance categories included solo and group ballet, group hip-hop and jazz, solo drama and singing and solo violin, as well as many more. Awards were given to the best performers in each category, while the adjudicators gave personalised feedback to every single participant.

“It really was fantastic to see so many children and adults perform in such a supportive environment and to gain the unbiased feedback that will help them to develop their talents further. This year’s festival set the bar high but we are already looking forward to next year and to introducing even more specialised performing categories,” Lawlor added.

The Maltese Islands Festival was organised in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv.
