Judge Oliver Gulia, 92, passed away today, 12 months after the demise of his wife Antida.

Dr Gulia was appointed judge in 1974 and served on the constitutional court between 1978 and 1983.

Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Dr Gulia served as senior crown counsel between 1966 and 1971, before becoming deputy attorney general.

Born in Żebbuġ on April 5, 1924, he graduated as a lawyer in 1949. During the war he was attached to the radar section of the Royal Malta Artillery and was awarded the Defence Medal Star and Africa Star.

Dr Gulia served on various judicial boards and civilian committees.

He married Antida in 1955 and they had three sons, Kenneth, Alan and Gavin, the former Labour minister and current Malta Tourism Authority chairman.
