The second volume of the history of Valletta FC was launched during a conference call at the club’s premises yesterday evening.

“City! The official history of football in Valletta Volume Two” highlights the achievements of the club from 1963 up to 2014 in more than 660 pages of information, statistics and pictures compiled by football historian Carmel Baldacchino.

“I’m proud to present the second and final volume of the history of Valletta FC,” vice-president Paul Spiteri told reporters yesterday.

“Publishing the history of our glorious club was one of my biggest dreams and I have no words to thank Carmel Baldacchino for his sterling work, vice-president Alex Fenech who is the main sponsor of this project through his company Brown’s Pharma Limited as well as Tony Formosa and Tonio Farrugia who did the proof reading.

“No doubt, these two volumes are a must-have for all local football lovers as they cover a huge part of the history of the Beautiful Game on our islands.”

Baldacchino said he was honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of writing the history of one of the foremost clubs in Maltese football.

“I hope more clubs follow Valletta’s example as these type of books surely help to keep Maltese football alive for many years to come,” he said.

Alex Fenech, the club’s vice-president, encouraged all football enthusiasts to obtain a copy of Valletta FC’s history publications.

“I believe that these two volumes are of great interest for local football fans, not only those who follow Valletta FC, and no doubt this publication would be a perfect Christmas gift for those who have the game at heart,” Fenech said.

‘CITY! The official history of football in Valletta’ is selling at €30 (one volume) and €50 (both volumes) for club members while the price for non-members is €40 for one volume and €70 for two.

Meanwhile, Valletta FC president Victor Sciriha revealed yesterday that the government has proposed a new site for the construction of a football stadium and complex.

“The club secretary informed me this week that the government has recommended a new site where to build our football stadium,” the City president said.

“We need to sit down and assess the area thoroughly to make sure that it meets the project’s requirements.

“Our goal is not only to have a football stadium but to commercialise the new premises and attract foreign investors.

“I hope that the stadium site saga, which has been dragging for the past nine years, finally reaches a positive conclusion next year.”
