An inquiry into allegations that nursing council elections were rigged has been sitting on the Health Minister's desk for more than two weeks, the Nationalist Party said this morning.

The nursing council has been at a standstill since it was dissolved on July 28 of this year, with no regulatory work done since that date. New foreign nurses were not being registered as council members and the council was not playing a part in scrutinising private sector healthcare contracts, the party said.

The PN said Health Minister Chris Fearne was keeping his lips sealed about the inquiry report, commissioned by Dr Fearne himself at the end of August.

Allegations of voting irregularities were brought to the fore in a judicial protest filed by two unsuccessful candidates. The two plaintiffs have alleged that there were two sets of ballot papers, one of which appeared to be photocopied. Tampered ballot papers consistently favoured three successful candidates, the two claimed.

15 weeks have gone by since the inquiry was appointed and people were still none the wiser, the PN said.

It accused the Health Minister of being more interested in pandering to PL party faithful than getting to the bottom of the nursing council crisis.

"Those who remain silent and take no action are accomplices to the fact," the party said.
