Martin Schulz is reported to have said at a joint press conference in Valletta that he did not believe that the Panama Papers scandal had cast doubts on Malta’s ability to push through EU anti-money laundering laws.

Does the fact that the various (not only the Panama scandal) serious allegations of corruption levelled at the EU presidency- elect, mean nothing to Schulz? Is he, for some reason, prepared to look the other way?

He said that it is common for European institutions to have separate opinions to those of national governments. What, may I ask, is his personal opinion when it specifically comes to corruption? If this lowering of standards of ethics and values is acceptable in the EU, then I for one – who voted to join – would not be happy to be part of it.
