While the ferry was berthed at Valletta quay on December 9 at around 10am, the passengers experienced quite an uncomfortable and unpleasant situation while disembarking.

Due to a slight swell, the gangway was very unstable and a crew member was telling passengers to “be careful while disembarking”.

When the operator of the ferry was contacted, the girl on the other end simply said: “That’s what happens when there is a slight swell, and a crew member would assist passengers to disembark.”

The bottom line is that this slight swell is putting passengers (especially elderly and people with special needs) at risk.

This so called ‘gangway’ is not suitable, and a professional, tailor-made ramp should be put in place to serve this particular quay.

The photo shows the so- called gangway lifting itself at every slight swell.

An e-mail was also sent to the Department of Health and Safety urging this office to investigate.
