Twenty-one four-star and one five-star hotels have applied for additional storeys in the past three years, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said this evening.

Replying to a Parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Claudio Grech, he said that, at present, the Malta Tourism Authority had four pending applications for two five-star and four new four-star hotels.

According to tabled information, there are at present 14 five-star hotels and 42 four-star hotels in Malta and Gozo.

Three five-star and nine four-star hotels closed down for good between 2012 and this year.
