I read Joseph Tonna’s letter (December 6). I would also like to know what remedies are available for landlords in such circumstances since it seems that the law is in favour of such tenants.

My late sister owned a property which she had rented out to a Maltese person. After my sister passed away, the ownership of the property was legally transferred to us brothers and sisters. Since then, the tenant has failed to pay the monthly rent and to date we are owed thousands of euros in unpaid rent.

The tenant is also refusing to vacate the place since we need to sell the property vacant. What can we do? Is there a way to evict such bloodsuckers? When will the authorities take steps to amend the current rent laws?
